Integrated pest management strategies in date palm cultivation: A sustainable approach to pest control

Author(s): Merieme Oudrhiri

Abstract: Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera Linn) is a vital crop in many arid and semi-arid regions of the world, providing both economic and nutritional value. However, date palm cultivation faces significant challenges due to pest infestations, which can lead to substantial yield losses. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) offers a holistic approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, physical, and chemical control methods in a sustainable manner. This paper reviews key pests affecting date palms, evaluates various IPM strategies, and highlights their effectiveness and limitations. By focusing on sustainable practices, IPM can enhance date palm productivity, reduce reliance on chemical pesticides, and minimize environmental impact.
